Arts Midwest in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced that PlayMakers Repertory Company is one of 40 nonprofit, professional theater companies nationwide to be awarded a grant as part of the Shakespeare in American Communities program.
The program introduces middle and high school students to the power of live theater and the masterpieces of William Shakespeare.
The $25,000 grant will support the theater’s fall 2014 production and related educational activities, such as in-school residencies, workshops and post-performance discussions, for Shakespeare’s magical “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” PlayMakers will perform the romantic comedy Nov. 1 to Dec. 7 in rotating repertory with Stephen Sondheim’s tour de force Tony Award-winning musical “Into the Woods.”
Tickets for “Into the Woods” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” are currently available as part of PlayMakers’ 2014-2015 Season subscription packages. Tickets to individual productions go on sale in mid-July.
