A new online guide designed to help K-12 teachers incorporate philosophy into their instruction has been published by LEARN NC and the department of philosophy in UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences.
The guide, “Philosophy Resources for Educators,” includes an introduction to methods of philosophical discourse, a bibliography of both online and print resources for bringing philosophy into the classroom, and grade-specific lesson plans and sets of teaching strategies and materials. The materials are available for free.
“The LEARN NC Philosophy edition will serve as an excellent resource for K-12 classroom teachers interested in introducing philosophy to their students,” said Michael Dean Burroughs, director of the UNC Philosophy Outreach Program. “With lesson plans, clear descriptions of areas of philosophy, and advice on philosophical pedagogy, this open-web resource will greatly advance pre-college philosophy in North Carolina and continue the valuable work of LEARN NC.”
