Latasha Mingo, department manager for psychology and neuroscience, has been named Manager of the Year in the College of Arts & Sciences. The award was presented at the College’s Award in Management luncheon on April 18.
The award is given annually to a business or administrative manager in recognition of outstanding accomplishments that include:
- Leadership and teamwork.
- Creativity, innovation and resourcefulness.
- Technological expertise.
- Effective human resource and budget management.
Mingo joined the department of psychology and neuroscience in January 2016. She serves one of the largest departments in the College, with over 46 tenure-track and tenured faculty, eight teaching professors, 56 adjunct faculty, 25 postdoctoral fellows, 32 staff members, 1,600 undergraduate majors and 127 graduate students.
Department chair Donald Lysle praised Mingo for her excellent customer service and successful management of the department: “Her professionalism and thorough knowledge have made her one of our most outstanding department managers. In just a little over two years, she has become vital to our department in every way.”
Mingo was lauded for, among other things:
- Her impressive knowledge of departmental financial resources and providing effective fiscal leadership and stewardship of those resources.
- Her accurate assistance and superb leadership on personnel, grant and financial matters.
- Her dedication to department staff.
- Her commitment and enthusiasm for the department, including improving the working environment in Davie Hall.
- Her efforts in creating new positions to strengthen accounting support, grant management and facilities.
Mingo was commended for being supportive of staff feedback and development opportunities. She hosted two staff retreats to discuss important issues and how to continually improve the department, and she also created Staff Excellence Awards.
One faculty member described Mingo as “extremely accurate and knowledgeable. I honestly don’t remember when she’s ever been wrong about information; she’s just that trustworthy. As such, she is an amazing resource.”
