The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill hosted Dame Nicola Brewer, vice-provost international of University College London (UCL), and colleagues on Sept. 15, 2015. Dame Brewer is responsible for the implementation of UCL’s global strategy, and the delegation visited Chapel Hill to learn more about UNC’s area studies and global centers.
Brewer was joined by Jonathan Wolff, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and Ciarán Moynihan, senior partnership manager for North and Latin America in the Office for International Affairs. The delegation met with senior leaders from the College of Arts and Sciences and UNC Global, including representatives from the College’s six area studies centers, the Global Research Institute and the Center for Global Initiatives, as well as Robert Blouin, dean of the Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
“I’m very proud of work accomplished by our area studies and global centers. It was a pleasure to share their experiences with our colleagues at UCL, discuss our over-all global strategy, and learn more about UCL’s global strategy as well,” said Jonathan Hartlyn, senior associate dean for social sciences and global programs in the College of Arts and Sciences.
UNC has had a student exchange with UCL since 2008. The exchange has recently grown, now open to students who will take at least half of their coursework in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, art history, biology, computer science, economics, physical science or math.
In March 2015, Chancellor Carol L. Folt visited UCL soon after the announcement of the PharmAlliance, a tri-lateral partnership between the pharmacy schools of UNC, UCL and Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. The alliance allows for collaboration in pharmacy education, practice and research, as well as an exchange of pharmacy students for experiential education.
