UNC ranks 5th best public university nationwide

Carolina ranks fifth among the nation’s best public universities for the 13th consecutive year, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 guidebook America’s Best Colleges.

In related US News results, Carolina ranks:

  • 1st among national public universities and 17th overall in “Great Schools, Great Prices,” based on academic quality and net costs of attendance.
  • 2nd among publics, 7th overall for least debt, with 35 percent of students graduating with some debt and the average debt amount at $16,983.
  • 1st among top public universities for having the lowest rate of course sections with 50 or more students (13%), About 37% of UNC’s course sections had fewer than 20 students.
  • Among most outstanding undergraduate programs with “A Focus on Student Success.” Carolina was recognized for service learning as well as three programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, including first-year experience, undergraduate research, and study abroad.
