Donna Bickford will be the new associate director of the Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR) in the College of Arts and Sciences, effective Jan. 1, 2012.

Bickford has directed the Carolina Women’s Center since June 2006. She has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Rhode Island. Her research and teaching have explored the issue of human trafficking and the linkages between literature and social change.

“Donna’s knowledge and experience will be especially helpful as we continue to build a vibrant intellectual community that engages faculty and students through research,” said OUR director Patricia Pukkila.

The Office of Undergraduate Research was established in 1999 to expand opportunities for Carolina undergraduates to engage in research and mentored scholarship.  Through many OUR initiatives, undergraduates now enjoy a wide range of possibilities to conduct research with faculty and graduate mentors in classes, laboratories and field work on campus and around the world.

Bickford replaces Martha Arnold who retired from OUR in September.
