Three scholars in UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences received humanities fellowships from the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin.
The Ransom Center is a humanities research library and museum. The fellowships support projects that require substantial on-site use of the center’s collections of manuscripts, rare books, films, photography, art and performing arts materials.
UNC winners and their project titles include:
- Research Fellow Bobbi Owen, Michael R. McVaugh Distinguished Professor of Dramatic Art, “The Art and Craft of Theatrical Design: Collaboration with Artisans.” Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Research Fellowship Endowment.
- Research Fellow Milly Barranger, professor emerita of dramatic art, “The Legendary Lives of Stella Adler and Harold Clurman in the American Theatre of the Twentieth Century.” Supported by the Dorot Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Jewish Studies.
- Dissertation Fellow: Lauren Du Graf, a doctoral student in the department of English and comparative literature, “Little Magazines and Literary Salons: The Transatlantic Modernism of Charles Henri Ford.”
The Ransom Center will support more than 80 research fellows in 2014-2015, the 25th anniversary of the fellowship program. Since the program’s inception, the center has awarded fellowships to more than 900 scholars from around the world.
