Hannah Grannemann, managing director of PlayMakers Repertory Company, has been elected to the board of directors of ARTS North Carolina.

She also has been appointed to the executive committee, which advises the board in strategic planning and setting goals and priorities.

PlayMakers is the professional theater in residence in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Grannemann heads the theater’s administrative departments, working in partnership with producing artistic director Joseph Haj.

ARTS North Carolina is the statewide advocacy organization for the arts, calling for equitable access to the arts for all of North Carolina’s citizens, working to unify and connect the state’s arts communities and to foster arts leadership. The organization offers arts advocacy training, supports arts education, and presents annual events such as Arts Day and the Arts Summit.

Grannemann will serve with representatives from civic arts councils and arts organizations across the state, including the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, the North Carolina Symphony, the American Dance Festival and NCSU Center Stage, among others.

Before coming to PlayMakers in June 2008, Grannemann held key positions with two of the nation’s preeminent theater companies, Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven, Conn., and the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. She is secretary of the League of Resident Theatres.
