Frank Porter Graham Honor Society inducts two in the College

The Frank Porter Graham Graduate and Professional Student Honor Society held its Induction Ceremony and Reception on April 9. Two chemistry students in the College of Arts and Sciences, Michael Bertucci and James Grinias, were among the new inductees.

The Frank Porter Graham Graduate and Professional Student Honor Society is dedicated solely to graduate and professional students. Founded in 1990, the Frank Porter Graham society recognizes outstanding service provided to the University and community by graduate and professional students. Inductees are involved in activities above and beyond that which is required for their degree and must display high moral character.

Though it recognizes graduate and professional student nominees, the Frank Porter Graham Honor Society also honors faculty, staff or friends of the University who make significant contributions to graduate and professional education.

Dean of the Graduate School Steve Matson offered remarks at the ceremony. “This is no small task and you might all reflect on what you have done that made you deserving of the nomination and then commit to continuing that kind of activity and others like it. The University and your colleagues will benefit from your continued involvement and leadership.”

Other inductees were George Chao, genetics and molecular biology; Turquoise Griffith, health behavior and health education; Jennifer Job, education; Derrick Matthews, health behavior and health education; J. Elliott Robinson, neurobiology; Lisa de Saxe Zerden (faculty), School of Social Work; and Laurie Selz-Campbell (faculty), School of Social Work.
