James Peacock, the Kenan Distinguished Professor of Anthropology, will be awarded the 2014 George H. Johnson Prize by UNC’s Institute for the Arts and Humanities at a celebration and reception Oct. 17.<\/p>\n

The event is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Hyde Hall.<\/p>\n

Peacock is being recognized for his distinguished achievements and contributions to the University and community.<\/p>\n

The award pays homage to George H. Johnson, one of the Institute’s great ambassadors, while recognizing exemplary contributions by faculty in the arts, humanities or qualitative social sciences.<\/p>\n

The award is presented to a faculty member who has participated at any time in the IAH’s Faculty Fellows Program (including Chapman, Arts and Duke Exchange Fellows), Academic Leadership Program or Ethics Program.<\/p>\n
