A Photo Exhibit and Down East Fish Fry,&#8221; on Sept. 12.<\/p>\n<p>The event is open to the public.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/CSASfishish-front.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8680\" src=\"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/CSASfishish-front-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"CSASfishish-front\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>The event will kick off the opening reception of the fall art exhibit, <strong>\u201cAn Eye For Mullet,\u201d<\/strong> at the Love House and Hutchins Forum on Franklin Street. The event is co-sponsored by UNC Press and the department of American studies.These photographs, taken in a North Carolina mullet camp by Charles A. Farrell in 1938, were collected and curated by historian <strong>David S. Cecelski<\/strong> for an annotated photo essay that appears in the forthcoming issue of <em>Southern Cultures<\/em>. \u201cOur world today is so different than that of only a century ago,\u201d writes Cecelski, \u201cthat few people can recognize even the most basic aspects of daily life and labor as seen in [these] photographs.\u201d Yet the black-and-white images reveal \u201cthe changing nature of our relationship to the ocean and seashore.\u201d You can listen to voices and stories from the <strong>Southern Oral History Program<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cCoastal Carolina\u201d series <a title=\"Coastal Carolina voices\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/sohp\/sets\/fish-and-an-ish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5761\" src=\"http:\/\/south.unc.edu\/files\/2014\/07\/Saltbox-logo-300x298.jpg\" alt=\"Saltbox logo\" width=\"194\" height=\"193\" \/>To celebrate the issue\u2019s release, CSAS has invited <strong>Ricky Moore<\/strong> of Durham\u2019s <a title=\"Saltbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.saltboxseafoodjoint.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saltbox Seafood Joint<\/a> to serve up some of his signature sustainable seafood from the Carolina coast. Visitors can also enjoy live music on the porch by <strong>Wayne Martin &amp; Friends<\/strong>.The reception is free and open to the public, and $20 gets a guest \u201cFish and an Ish\u201d: a plate of Ricky\u2019s delicious seafood plus\u00a0the Fall 2014 issue of <em>Southern Cultures<\/em>.
