Multiple UNC graduate programs ranked by U.S. News & World Report<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill appears on multiple lists of schools, degree programs and specialty areas newly ranked in 2014 by U.S. News and World Report for the 2015 edition of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Best Graduate Schools.\u201d Following are the new UNC rankings and specialty listings that are currently available from the magazine, including those in the College of Arts and Sciences:<\/p>\n

College of Arts and Sciences (Ph.D. programs in the sciences)<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Chemistry, tied for 15th; (Analytical chemistry, 2nd, and Inorganic chemistry, tied for 8th)<\/li>\n
  • Statistics, tied for 20th (Biostatistics, tied for 12th)<\/li>\n
  • Computer science, tied for 25th<\/li>\n
  • Biology, 26th<\/li>\n
  • Mathematics, tied for 28th<\/li>\n
  • Physics, tied for 39th<\/li>\n
  • Earth sciences, tied for 54th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Public affairs<\/strong><\/p>\n

    UNC has master\u2019s degree programs and specialty areas within several units based in the School of Government, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Gillings School of Global Public Health that are ranked as part of a public affairs category.<\/p>\n

                    Although UNC has no engineering school, the department of environmental sciences and engineering is based in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and perennially appears on this list of top engineering programs.<\/p>\n

                      Complete rankings information is posted on U.S. News Graduate School Compass. Rankings highlights are published online and in the 2015 edition of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Best Graduate Schools\u201d by U.S. News Media Group, available on newsstands at the end of March.<\/p>\n

                      U.S. News first ranked graduate program in 1987 and has done so annually since 1990. Business, education, engineering, law and medicine are ranked annually based on expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school\u2019s faculty, research and students, according to U.S. News officials. Other disciplines and specialties in the sciences, social sciences, humanities and other areas, including selected health specialists, are ranked periodically. Those rankings are based solely on the ratings of peer academic experts, including deans, program directors and faculty.<\/p>\n

                      In addition to the new rankings, U.S. News republishes, on its website and in the guidebook, older rankings that are based on peer ratings in various health disciplines, nursing schools and Ph.D. programs in the sciences.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
