{"id":6811,"date":"2013-11-04T13:01:07","date_gmt":"2013-11-04T18:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/college.unc.edu\/?p=6811"},"modified":"2024-07-02T14:26:51","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T14:26:51","slug":"eizenstat-discuss-future-jews-nov-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/?p=6811","title":{"rendered":"Eizenstat to discuss \u2018The Future of the Jews\u2019 Nov. 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/Eizenstat_Stuartnewphotooctober2013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6812\" src=\"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/Eizenstat_Stuartnewphotooctober2013.jpg\" alt=\"Eizenstat_Stuartnewphotooctober2013\" width=\"239\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Carolina alumnus Stuart Eizenstat will discuss \u201cThe Future of the Jews: How Global Forces are Impacting the Jewish People, Israel and its Relationship with the United States\u201d on Nov. 18 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n<p>The free lecture, hosted by the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies, will be at 7:30 p.m. in the UNC William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Eizenstat \u201964, who has held numerous senior U.S. government positions in three presidential administrations, will share his thoughts regarding the future of the Jewish people in light of the major geopolitical, economic and security challenges facing the United States, Israel and the world.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the belated justice for victims of the Holocaust was the result of Eizenstat\u2019s leadership in the Clinton administration.\u00a0He successfully negotiated major agreements with European countries, covering restitution of property, payment for slave and forced laborers, and recovery of looted art and bank accounts. He is the author of \u201cImperfect Justice: Looted Assets, Slave Labor, and the Unfinished Business of World War II\u201d and \u201cThe Future of the
