{"id":6594,"date":"2013-10-04T15:34:47","date_gmt":"2013-10-04T20:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/college.unc.edu\/?p=6594"},"modified":"2024-07-02T14:26:03","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T14:26:03","slug":"understanding-ocd-evening-experts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/?p=6594","title":{"rendered":"Understanding OCD: An evening with experts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNC&#8217;s Jon Abramowitz, a psychology professor and director of the OCD\/Anxiety Disorders Clinic, will be one of the panelists at a free event Oct. 17: &#8220;Understanding and Getting Help for OCD: An Evening with Experts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 6:30 p.m. panel discussion will be held at Cameron Village Library, Room 202, 1930 Clarke Ave., Raleigh.<\/p>\n<p>The event is part of OCD Awareness Week, Oct. 14-20.<\/p>\n<p>A panel of experts in diagnosing and treating obsessive compulsive disorder will offer a question-answer session for the community.<\/p>\n<p><b>Panelists include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Abramowitz, <\/strong>author of a self-help book for people with OCD entitled, <em>Getting Over OCD: A 10-Step Workbook for Taking Back Your Life.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aureen Wagner,<\/strong> clinical child psychologist and founder of The Anxiety Wellness Center in Cary, has authored several books on OCD, including: <em>Up and Down the Worry Hill,<\/em> <em>What to do When your Child has OCD,<\/em> and <em>Treatment of OCD in Children and Adolescents.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Jeffrey Sapyta<\/strong><b><b> i<\/b><\/b>s a clinical psychologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University Medical Center, where he currently coordinates a family-based OCD intervention study for younger children with OCD symptoms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annette Perot <\/strong>is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Durham, where she has specialized in the treatment of adults with OCD and related disorders for the past 19 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfoundation.org\">http:\/\/www.ocfoundation.org. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNC&#8217;s Jon Abramowitz, a psychology professor and director of the OCD\/Anxiety Disorders Clinic, will be one of the panelists at a free event Oct. 17: &#8220;Understanding and Getting Help for OCD: An Evening with Experts.&#8221; The 6:30 p.m. panel discussion will be held at Cameron Village Library, Room 202, 1930 Clarke Ave., Raleigh.
