{"id":6534,"date":"2013-09-27T09:24:57","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T14:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/college.unc.edu\/?p=6534"},"modified":"2024-07-02T14:25:57","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T14:25:57","slug":"carnegie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/?p=6534","title":{"rendered":"Carnegie Fellowships to support visiting Arab social scientists at UNC-Chapel Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An award from the Carnegie Corporation of New York will fund visiting fellowships for Arab region social scientists to come to UNC-Chapel Hill, beginning in fall 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The fellowship program will be directed by Charles Kurzman and Carl Ernst of the <a href=\"http:\/\/mideast.unc.edu\/\">Carolina Center for the Study of Middle East and Muslim Civilizations,<\/a> and administered by UNC\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irss.unc.edu\/odum\/home2.jsp\">Odum Institute for Research in Social Science.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The fellowships will offer advanced doctoral candidates or post-doctoral scholars within five years of their Ph.D.\u2019s an opportunity to work with a faculty mentor at UNC, to participate in ongoing research, and if interested, to audit graduate seminars. The program will provide an intensive intellectual experience for Arab social scientists at a formative stage of their careers.<\/p>\n<p>Fellows must be affiliated with an Arab university and currently engaged in research in any social science discipline or social-scientific work in information science, law, public health or other fields.<\/p>\n<p>The program anticipates offering three fellowships in fall 2014 and three in fall 2015. Applicants must identify one or more faculty mentors at UNC, propose a research training agenda, and submit two letters of recommendation. Materials for fall 2014 fellowships should be sent by Jan. 1, 2014, to <a href=\"mailto:mideast@unc.edu\">mideast@unc.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UNC-Chapel Hill is one of 10 universities to receive Carnegie
