(photo by Jon Gardiner)\" src=\"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/PlayMakersprc_raisin_in_the_sun009-2-scaled.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PlayMakers provides a diverse set of plays designed to appeal to a wide cross-section of the community, as in 2013&#8217;s &#8220;Raisin in the Sun.&#8221; (photo by Jon Gardiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>PlayMakers Repertory Company has been named an inaugural winner of <em>Triangle Business Journal\u2019<\/em>s Leaders in Diversity Award.<\/p>\n<p>The professional theater company based in the College of Arts and Sciences was honored in the 2013 group at an awards luncheon and in the Sept. 13 edition of the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p><em>Triangle Business Journal<\/em> says the Leaders in Diversity Awards program \u201crecognizes accomplishments of Triangle businesses, individuals and nonprofit organizations as they strive to reflect the rich tapestry of our community. These winners have demonstrated respect and inclusive treatment of others, advocacy for underrepresented groups and multicultural marketing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PlayMakers provides a diverse selection of plays designed to appeal to and reflect a wide cross-section of the community, such as \u201cA Raisin in the Sun\u201d paired with \u201cClybourne Park\u201d (2013), \u201cAngels in America\u201d (2011) and \u201cWhen the Bulbul Stopped Singing\u201d (2007), among others. Recent partners include Chapel Hill\u2019s award-winning spoken word ensemble Sacrificial Poets, the Durham County Library, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate Program and UNC\u2019s Program in the Humanities &amp; Human Values.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the organization\u2019s leadership has been active in forwarding a national conversation on issues of diversity in the arts with groups such as Theatre Communications Group and the League of Resident Theatres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored by this recognition of PlayMakers\u2019 efforts in service to our increasingly diverse community,\u201d said producing artistic director Joseph Haj. \u201cWe are proud of our programming and outreach, development of a more diverse audience, and being a home for a diverse group of artists where they can create dynamic and revelatory theatrical work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For information on PlayMakers\u2019 2013-2014 season, subscription packages and tickets to individual productions, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.playmakersrep.org\">www.playmakersrep.org <\/a>or call (919) 962-PLAY (7529).<\/p>\n<p>The Drama League of New York has named PlayMakers one of the best regional theaters in America.
