May 2:\u00a0 Carolina Science Caf\u00e9 and the Water in Our World initiative explore What\u2019s in My Water, a discussion about environmental toxins in drinking water. With NCSU biologist Heather Patisaul. Free, 6 pm, Top of the Hill, Back Bar. http:\/\/www.moreheadplanetarium.org<\/a><\/p>\n

May 2:\u00a0 Swain Lot Film Festival Shorts: Part 1 of the annual UNC student film festival, featuring the juried show of the best works produced in 2012-13 by media production students in the department of communication studies. Students admitted free with valid university or high school ID; $4 for others. Tickets are available at the Varsity Box Office. 7 pm, Varsity Theatre, Franklin Street. 919.843.3687. http:\/\/www.ackland.org<\/a><\/p>\n

May 5:\u00a0 Free screening of the new documentary about NC author Elizabeth Spencer, Landscapes of the Heart.\u00a0 4 pm and 6:15 pm, Hanes Art Center. http:\/\/elizabethspencerdocumentary.org\/<\/p>\n

May 6: Think Fast Forum: The Boston Marathon Bombing (and its Aftermath). 6:30 pm, George Watts Hill Alumni Center, free. May 8:\u00a0 Art for Lunch: UNC art history doctoral candidate Joanna Gohmann discusses A Cosmic Dog fight: Contesting World Order in Oudry\u2019s \u2018The Dog that Carried the Dinner Basket for his Master.\u2019 Free to Ackland members and UNC One Card Holders; $5 for all others.
