Maryann Feldman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Maryann Feldman<\/a>, a public policy professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will receive the 2013 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research.<\/p>\n

Feldman is the Heninger Distinguished Professor in UNC\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences and a senior fellow at the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise.<\/p>\n

The award is given by co-founders the Swedish Entrepreneurship Forum and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics. It is the leading international honor in entrepreneurship research, with a prize of 100,000 euros. Feldman will be honored for her comprehensive contributions to entrepreneurship research.<\/p>\n

She is known for her work in the geography of innovation \u2013 investigating the reasons why innovation clusters spatially and the mechanisms that support and sustain industrial clusters.<\/p>\n

\u201cProfessor Feldman\u2019s work spans a wide spectrum of entrepreneurship research, and she has made significant contributions to our understanding of areas of innovation, commercialization of academic research and factors promoting technological change and economic growth\u201d, said Bo Carlsson, a professor at Case Western Reserve University and chairman of the award committee.<\/p>\n

Feldman has studied a variety of industries such as the pharmaceutical and biotech sector, researching academic entrepreneurship, university-industry relations, intellectual property rights and technology entrepreneurship. Feldman is\u00a0currently\u00a0consulting with the U.S. Department of Commerce.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer work has also had a significant impact on policy,\u201d Carlsson said. \u201cShe has testified before the United States Congress on issues related to innovation and entrepreneurship and consulted with local governments and entrepreneurial organizations on strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n
