{"id":32069,"date":"2019-09-20T08:43:36","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T12:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/college.unc.edu\/?p=32069"},"modified":"2024-07-02T17:12:28","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T17:12:28","slug":"india-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/?p=32069","title":{"rendered":"October conference to focus on digital innovation and India\u2019s global role"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pf-content\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-32070\" src=\"https:\/\/collegearchive.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/India-conference-banner_480x320.jpg\" alt=\"Graphic reads: Driving Innovation: Technology and India's Rise as a Global Power Oct. 10-11, 2019\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" \/>The Modern Indian Studies Initiative at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will host a conference entitled <em>Driving Innovation: Technology and India\u2019s Rise as a Global Power<\/em> on Oct. 10-11.<\/p>\n<p><em>Driving Innovation<\/em> will explore India\u2019s increased role in global affairs and how technology influences India\u2019s development challenges while also promoting business innovation and entrepreneurship, U.S.-India trade, and the global economy.<\/p>\n<p>The conference brings together experts from industry, government and academia to highlight the forces behind India\u2019s economic innovation and will explore the dynamic and evolving relationship between India and the United States. Themes will include the impact of technology on financial inclusion and business growth, innovations in affordable healthcare and U.S.-India technological trade flows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs India\u2019s economy develops at a rapid pace, its demand for quality education and professional training, higher-wage jobs, public health solutions, and infrastructure improvements persist on an unprecedented scale,\u201d said Anusha Chari, professor of economics and finance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Chari is also faculty chair of the Modern Indian Studies Initiative and an organizer of this conference. \u201cThe conference will provide participants with an interdisciplinary approach to innovation in India and its global influence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keynote speakers will include His Excellency Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Ambassador of India to the United States, who will be speaking as part of the Krasno Distinguished Speakers Series; the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, Krishnamurthy Subramanian; and Vivek Wadhwa, technological entrepreneur and distinguished fellow at Harvard Law School and Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free for UNC-Chapel Hill students and faculty, but registration is required in advance. Those attending the lunch will be charged a $25 fee.
