affects people\u2019s lives every day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Glatthaar employs that powerful force in his teaching, connecting events from the turn of the century with parallels in modern American society, engaging and energizing his students all the while.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Glatthaar doesn\u2019t find it difficult to convey the importance of history to his students. \u201cYou can\u2019t really know where you\u2019re going if you don\u2019t know where you\u2019re coming from,\u201d he said, \u201cand I try to remind them of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glatthaar is the Stephenson Distinguished Professor of History as well as the author of eight books, including <em>The March to the Sea and Beyond: Sherman\u2019s Troops in the Savannah and Carolinas
