There will be a Q&amp;A discussion following the film.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Communication studies professor <a href=\"https:\/\/comm.unc.edu\/people\/department-faculty\/gorham-hap-kinde\/\">Hap Kindem\u2019s<\/a> documentary film, \u201cMore than Meets the Eye,\u201d which focuses on the life of a blind Paralympics skier, will be screened at the 2011 Boston International Film Festival on April 18.<\/p>\n<p>It was\u00a0one of\u00a0100 films selected for screening from among 2,600 entries to the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Anne-Mette Bredahl, the subject of Kindem\u2019s film, is a woman who has excelled in both life and sport.<\/p>\n<p>Bredahl tackled blindness in her 20s and survived a rare, potentially fatal illness in her 40s. She became the first blind person trained in Denmark to be a clinical psychologist. Never having skied before she lost her sight, she became a Paralympic gold medalist for Denmark. She even won a competition while six months pregnant. After just 10 weeks of training following a major illness and the birth of her son, Bredahl qualified for the 2010 Paralympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>The film was supported by a fellowship from the Institute for the Arts and Humanities in UNC\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences. It previously won the award for &#8220;Best Film That Breaks Stereotypes&#8221; at the Breaking Down Barriers Film Festival in Sochi and Moscow, Russia.\u00a0 It was shown March 31 at the U.S. Ambassador\u2019s residence\u00a0in Oslo, Norway,\u00a0by the Norwegian American Association (NORAM). Kindem received a Norwegian Marshall Fund grant from NORAM to support the production of the\u00a0film and to be a visiting professor\u00a0at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The film, &#8220;More Than Meets the Eye,&#8221; will be screened on the UNC campus at 7:30 p.m. May 4 in the Hanes Art Center auditorium.
