Nina Totenberg<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

National Public Radio\u2019s award-winning legal correspondent Nina Totenberg will discuss \u201cThe Supreme Court and the Presidency\u201d on Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.<\/p>\n

Doors will open at 5 p.m. for the free event, and no ticket is required.<\/p>\n

Totenberg will reveal the intrigue behind the headlines in this discussion with Michael Gerhardt, Samuel Ashe Distinguished Professor at the UNC School of Law and Scholar in Residence at the National Constitution Center. He is a nationally recognized expert on constitutional conflicts and the author of numerous law review articles and five books. A Q&A will follow the discussion.<\/p>\n

Totenberg will appear on campus as the 2016-17 Frey Foundation Distinguished Visiting Professor in UNC\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n

Totenberg\u2019s coverage of legal affairs and the Supreme Court has won her widespread recognition. Newsweek <\/em>says, \u201cThe mainstays [of NPR] are Morning Edition<\/em> and All Things Considered<\/em>. But the cr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me is Nina Totenberg.\u201d<\/p>\n

Totenberg\u2019s reports air regularly on NPR\u2019s critically acclaimed news magazines, All Things Considered<\/em>, Morning Edition<\/em>\u00a0and Weekend Edition. <\/em>A frequent contributor to major newspapers and periodicals, she has published articles in the New York Times Magazine,<\/em> the Harvard Law Review, <\/em>the Christian Science Monitor, Parade <\/em>magazine, New York Magazine <\/em>and others.<\/p>\n

Before joining NPR in 1975, Totenberg served as Washington editor of New Times Magazine<\/em>, and before that she was the legal affairs correspondent for the National Observer<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She has won every major journalism award in broadcasting, and is the only radio journalist to have won the National Press Foundation award for Broadcaster of the Year.<\/p>\n

The Frey Foundation Distinguished Visiting Professorship was established in 1989 to bring leaders from a variety of fields, including government, public policy, international affairs and the arts, to UNC-Chapel Hill. The foundation was established in 1974 by Edward J. and Frances Frey of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their son, alumnus David Gardner Frey, B.A. \u201964, J.D. \u201967, is chair of the foundation.<\/p>\n
