Special events associated with the show begin Jan. 11.<\/p>\n<p>Languishing in a provincial town far from their beloved Moscow, sisters Olga, Masha and Irina yearn for the sparkling city of their childhood, where they believe all dreams will come true. Acknowledged as a masterpiece of the world stage, \u201cThree Sisters\u201d is Chekhov\u2019s tour de force investigation of a family navigating the space between reality and dreams.<\/p>\n<p>The production is being directed by Vivienne Benesch, PlayMakers\u2019 new producing artistic director. An award-winning director\/actor\/teacher and artistic director of the Chautauqua Theatre Company, Benesch also directed \u201cRed,\u201d \u201cIn the Next Room (or the vibrator play)\u201d and \u201cLove Alone\u201d at PlayMakers.<\/p>\n<p>PlayMakers\u2019 production is the professional premiere of a new version of \u201cThree Sisters\u201d by Libby Appel, artistic director emerita of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Appel, who directed \u201cVanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike\u201d and \u201cThe Glass Menagerie\u201d at PlayMakers, recently adapted and published all four of Chekhov\u2019s major works including \u201cThree Sisters.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12737\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12737\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/\/casdev.unc.edu\/collegearchive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2016\/01\/prc_three_sisters3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12737 size-medium\" src=\"\/\/casdev.unc.edu\/collegearchive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2016\/01\/prc_three_sisters3-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"PlayMakers Repertory Company production of Three Sisters. Show times will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays and Saturday, Jan. 30.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with \u201cThree Sisters,\u201d PlayMakers will host \u201cThe Vision Series-Directors in Conversation,\u201d a behind-the-scenes preview with Benesch, Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Paul Green Theatre. The event is free and open to the public. Participants share coffee and hors d\u2019oeuvres provided by series sponsor Jujube Restaurant, learn about the vision for the show and get a sneak peek at the sets and costumes in progress.
