Danianne Mizzy, head of the Kenan Science Library and its <a href=\"http:\/\/library.unc.edu\/makerspace\/projects\/\">Makerspace<\/a>, conceived of the idea for the Maker-in-Residence program. She co-wrote a successful <a href=\"https:\/\/nscpp.unc.edu\/parents-families\/get-involved\/carolina-parents-council\">Carolina Parents Council<\/a> grant with two students from the student maker group\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maknet.web.unc.edu\/\">MakNet<\/a>, Kai Shin \u201915 and Perry Harabin, a graduate Mathematics student. (photo by Kristen Chavez)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cA makerspace is about collaboration and bringing together people from different backgrounds, and allowing them space and resources to make things together,\u201d said Michelle Garst, program manager of BeAM.<\/p>\n<p>Originally, the telescope was going to be painted a solid Carolina blue, but the designers were inspired by Van Gogh\u2019s <em>Starry Night<\/em> and re-created his night sky. They added UNC\u2019s Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower for a Tar Heel twist.<\/p>\n<p>The project culminated in a sky-watching party outside the Morehead Planetarium. Makers joined CHAOS astronomers and invited the public to view the moon and stars through the new telescope.<\/p>\n<p>The telescope will be housed in the Kenan Science Library, and will be available
