\u201cThe Real Americans,\u201d written and performed by Dan Hoyle, will round out PlayMakers Repertory Company\u2019s 2015-2016 season April 27-May 1, 2016.<\/p>\n

PlayMakers, the professional theater in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will present \u201cThe Real Americans\u201d as part of its thought-provoking PRC\u00b2 second stage series, in which each performance is followed by artist-audience discussion. The performance completes the theater\u2019s 2015-2016 lineup, joining Trieu Tran\u2019s \u201cUncle Ho to Uncle Sam\u201d (Aug. 26-30) and \u201cHighway 47\u201d by KJ Sanchez (Jan. 6-10, 2016).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Real Americans\u201d was inspired by Hoyle\u2019s cross-country trip to small towns throughout the United States. Armed with only a van and a tape recorder, he traveled in search of what\u2019s at the heart of the heartland. In addition to downhome hospitality, he witnessed angry populism among the citizens who have been called \u201cthe real Americans.\u201d With brilliant documentary storytelling that has been compared to the work of Studs Terkel and Charles Kuralt, Hoyle\u2019s presentation helps audiences better understand the divide between big city and small town America.<\/p>\n

The Huffington Post praised the one-man show as \u201cnothing short of brilliant: unsettling, poignant and hilarious.\u201d The San Francisco Chronicle called it \u201cimpressive, hilarious, moving and provocative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dan Hoyle is an award-winning actor-playwright. His solo shows have enjoyed acclaimed runs in New York and San Francisco and have played at venues across the country and around the world. The San Francisco Examiner describes his work as \u201chilarious \u2026 with warmth, humor, empathy \u2026 it\u2019s truly magical to watch the gifted Hoyle.\u201d<\/p>\n
