(Photo by Jon Gardiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>PlayMakers Repertory Company will conclude its main-stage season with Pulitzer Prize finalist \u201c4000 Miles\u201d by Amy Herzog, onstage April 1 through 19. PlayMakers is the professional theater in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Special events associated with the show begin March 16.<\/p>\n<p>An elderly grandmother with a fading memory opens her door \u2014 and her life \u2014 to her wayward grandson. As an overnight couch-surf turns into an extended stay, \u201c4000 Miles\u201d unearths surprising commonality across generations in this emotionally compelling and humor-filled story that proves the adage \u2014 all roads lead home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c4000 Miles\u201d won the Obie Award for Best New American Play and was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. (Photo by Jon Gardiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201c4000 Miles\u201d will be directed by Seattle\/San Francisco-based director Desdemona Chiang. Chiang has directed for Seattle Shakespeare Company, Aurora Theatre Company, Crowded Fire Theatre Company, FringeNYC and Washington Ensemble Theatre, among others. Chiang worked with producing artistic director Joseph Haj on PlayMakers\u2019 production of \u201cThe Making of a King: Henry IV &amp; V\u201d (2012) and directed \u201cHairspray\u201d for the 2014 PlayMakers Summer Youth Conservatory.<\/p>\n<p>Dee Maaske appears in the role of the grandmother, Vera. Her credits include 21 seasons with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival as well as acting on stages across the United States, in Europe and the Middle East. In 2004, she was selected by Horton Foote to play Carrie Watts for his 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary production of \u201cThe Trip to Bountiful\u201d at Hartford Stage Company in Connecticut and the Alley Theatre in Houston.<\/p>\n<p>Performances will be in the Paul Green Theatre in UNC\u2019s department of dramatic art on Country Club Road. The event is free and open to the public. Participants share coffee and hors d\u2019oeuvres provided by series sponsor Jujube Restaurant, learn about the vision for the show and get a sneak peek at the sets and costumes in progress.
