In 2013, we published a story about a new UNC digital collection that documents the state’s history through monuments, shrines and public art. The scholarly adviser to the site is historian Fitz Brundage. In recent days, Brundage has been quoted about Confederate monuments in numerous national publications.

Alive: The Life Cycle of a Painting

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, what is a nearly 500-year-old painting worth? “Portrait of a Young Lady” sat in storage at the Ackland Art Museum since its arrival there in 1968 — until UNC art history professor Christoph Brachmann pulled it from the vaults last year. He immediately sensed the possible importance of this piece, thought to be created in 1522 by Barthel Bruyn, a German Renaissance painter.

PlayMakers kicks off PRC2 season with ‘Count,’ drama about six men on death row, on Aug. 23

PlayMakers Repertory Company kicks off its 2017-2018 season with the world premiere of “Count,” in the first production of its PRC2 second-stage series, opening Aug. 23. This docu-drama about six men on death row was written by Lynden Harris and is co-produced with the North Carolina based collective, Hidden Voices.
