Lecture by Rwanda scholar to open undergraduate research conference

A lecture by Rwanda scholar Catharine Newbury will open the Undergraduate Research conference of the department of African, African American and Diaspora Studies on March 24.

Newbury, professor emerita of government and African studies at Smith College, will discuss “Infra-Politics in Rwanda: Rural Activism Before and After the Genocide,” for the Dunbar-Stone Lecture from 5 to 7 p.m. in Caldwell Hall 105.

On March 25, the department will launch the inaugural issue of its undergraduate research journal, Global Africana Review. Students will also present their research papers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.in Graham Memorial 039. UNC alumna Riana Lynn, a AAAD major, will deliver a luncheon talk.
