With the debut of the College of Arts and Sciences’ new website, we also debut our new tag line: Synergy Unleashed.

At Carolina, teaching, learning and research are transformative processes by which we invent a better future. There is synergy in pairing diverse and sometimes unexpected disciplines. Such combinations show us how to think in new ways, open us to new ideas and shake up our preconceptions. We are preparing students for careers that don’t even yet exist.

Our new ampersand combines an “A” and an “S” to emphasize that the education we provide is both broad and deep, encompassing the arts and the sciences.
Our new ampersand combines an ‘A’ and an ‘S’ to emphasize that the education we provide is both broad and deep, encompassing the arts and the sciences.

When we talk about taking on the world’s grand challenges, we recognize that complex problems need to be approached from all perspectives in the arts and the sciences. They require the collaboration of scientists, humanists, artists, entrepreneurs and technologists.

We are striving to remove the traditional academic silos to “unleash” such new thinking and interdisciplinary opportunities. From courses that encourage team teaching across disciplines to our renowned research centers in which innovation thrives to dynamic new facilities like our BeAM makerspaces, we are bringing the diverse and eclectic members of the College community together—faculty, staff and students across disciplines—to think, communicate, collaborate and create.

We want the College of Arts and Sciences to be a catalyst for the convergence of ideas, people, programs and connections to spark greater synergy and compelling results—with life-changing implications.
