Anthropology professor to be awarded prize for distinguished service

James Peacock, the Kenan Distinguished Professor of Anthropology, will be awarded the 2014 George H. Johnson Prize by UNC’s Institute for the Arts and Humanities at a celebration and reception Oct. 17.

The event is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Hyde Hall.

Peacock is being recognized for his distinguished achievements and contributions to the University and community.

The award pays homage to George H. Johnson, one of the Institute’s great ambassadors, while recognizing exemplary contributions by faculty in the arts, humanities or qualitative social sciences.

The award is presented to a faculty member who has participated at any time in the IAH’s Faculty Fellows Program (including Chapman, Arts and Duke Exchange Fellows), Academic Leadership Program or Ethics Program.
