PlayMakers announces schedule change in second-stage

mikedaiseyPlayMakers Repertory Company has announced that it is exchanging the performance dates for its productions of “Hold These Truths” and “The Story of The Gun.”

Due to changes in the schedules of guest artists appearing in its spring PRC2 second-stage shows, the world premiere of “The Story of The Gun,” created and performed by Mike Daisey, will now be at 7:30 p.m. nightly Jan. 8-12 and 2 p.m. on Jan. 12. “Hold These Truths” by Jeanne Sakata will be onstage 7:30 p.m. nightly April 23-27 and 2 p.m. on April 27.

In “The Story of The Gun,” Daisey takes on his most provocative subject yet: America’s relationship with guns. Throwing easy answers and partisan bickering out the window, he will delve into the history of the gun and its place in America’s national culture. He promises to cut through the political static with his trademark blend of hilarious comedy, brilliant observation and pitch-perfect timing.

“Hold These Truths” will be a regional premiere based on a true story. During World War II, student Gordon Hirabayashi fought the U.S. government’s orders to forcibly incarcerate people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast. Hirabayashi was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

Tickets are still available to both shows as part of PlayMakers’ 2013/14 subscription packages, or single tickets may be purchased starting at $15. PRC² shows are presented in the Elizabeth Price Kenan Theatre in the Center for Dramatic Art on Country Club Road.

PlayMakers’ PRC2 September season opener “Surviving Twin,” featuring Grammy Award-winner Loudon Wainwright III, was a popular hit, selling out every performance.

PlayMakers, the professional theater in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is based in UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences.
