North Carolina Public Radio – WUNC-FM, a service of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will explore a new collection of never-before-heard interviews about the Civil Rights Movement. Each Friday morning in March, WUNC’s Eric Hodge will be joined on “Morning Edition” by Seth Kotch from the Southern Oral History Program at UNC’s Center for the Study of the American South. The Center is part of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Kotch and a team of oral historians recently completed a new series of 50 interviews with activists, leaders and lay-people about the Civil Rights Movement. The collection will be part of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and archived at the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress.
North Carolina Public Radio – WUNC (91.5 FM) is licensed to the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees. The board also holds the licenses for WUNC’s four affiliate stations: WRQM 90.9 FM in Rocky Mount, WUND 88.9 FM in Manteo, WURI 90.9 FM in Manteo and WBUX-FM 90.5 FM in Buxton.
